What is a Vape Kit?
Vape kits, sometimes referred to as e-cigs or vapes, stand at the very heart of each and every vapers journey. They contain almost all of the components you need (aside from e-liquid) to get started straight away. Vape kits come in a variety of different forms, but each one will include a battery-powered device, as well as a pod or tank, and a coil.
How do Vape Kits work?
Vape kits are made up of three main components: the battery, the pod/tank, and the coil.
Battery/Mod
The vape battery is responsible for powering the kit and heating the coil, they’re the main body of the setup. You’ll find that some vape kits feature an integrated built-in battery, whilst advanced setups may require one or two external batteries.
Pod/Tank
Pods and Vape Tanks are the part of the device that holds the e-liquid, and the coil. Vape tanks tend to be made of glass, whilst vape pods are made using plastic.
Vape Coil
The vape coil is arguably one of the most important aspects of a vape kit. They’re the part of the vape that transforms the e-liquid into smooth, satisfying vapour. However, the quality of the coil and its build determine how much flavour you receive from your e-liquid. The amount of vapour the coil creates is due to its resistance, which is measured in Ohms (Ω), with higher-resistance coils producing less vapour than those with a low resistance.
What are the different types of Vape Kits?
Reusable vape kits come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from refillable and prefilled pod kits, to Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) vape kits, vape pens, and advanced sub ohm vape kits. Every vape kit is designed to vapourise e-liquid, but the type of vape kit you choose can have a significant impact on your experience and enjoyment. Below are the main types of vape kit we offer:
What are Vape Pens?
Highlights:
- Compact
- Portable
- Beginner-friendly
Vape pens are small and simple devices that are known for their convenience and ease of use. They’re named after their tall, thin shape and are one of the most popular vape kits for those transitioning from smoking. They usually feature a built-in battery and come with a refillable tank or pod. Pen vapes are either single-button or inhale-activated, making them less complicated, and a great choice for new vapers.
What are Pod Kits?
Pod kits are a type of vape that come with a pod, often made of plastic, rather than a tank. There are two different types of pod kit; refillable pod kits, and prefilled pod kits, each of which has their own unique advantages.
Refillable Pod Kits
Highlights:
- Refillable and reusable
- Easy to maintain
- Choose your own e-liquid
Refillable pod kits offer more control over your experience as you can use them alongside your choice of e-liquid, allowing you to opt for a nicotine strength, and flavour, that suits you. Some refillable pod kits utilise disposable pods with integrated coils. These require less upkeep than pods with replaceable vape coils, but create more waste as the entire pod is disposed of once the coil deteriorates.
Prefilled Pod Kits
Highlights:
- Great value
- Minimal maintenance
- Quick and easy setup
Prefilled pod kits are the easiest type of vape kit to use. They feature pods that are preloaded with nicotine salt e-liquid in strengths ranging from 0mg - 20mg. Their ease of use and minimal maintenance means that they’re a great option for anybody searching for a disposable vape alternative. Big puff vapes are especially popular due to their longevity and overall value.
What are Mouth-to-Lung Vape Kits?
Highlights:
- Simulates smoking
- Minimal vapour
- High-resistance coils/pods
Mouth-to-Lung vape kits, A.K.A MTL vape kits, are a type of vape kit that’s designed specifically to simulate the sensation of smoking. They use pods or coils with a higher resistance (usually 0.8 Ohms or above), and produce minimal vapour.
MTL vapes are ideal starter vape kits for those who are transitioning from smoking to vaping, as you first inhale the vapour into your mouth, before then taking it into your lungs and exhaling.
What are Sub-Ohm Vape Kits?
Highlights:
- Large clouds of vapour
- Low-resistance coils/pods
- Customisable power and airflow
Sub-ohm vape kits, also known as Direct-to-Lung, or DTL, vape kits, are intended for experienced vapers who enjoy large clouds of vapour. They offer vapers the ability to customise their experience through features such as variable wattage, adjustable airflow, removable vape tanks, and more. Advanced vape kits use coils or pods with a lower resistance (0.4 Ohms or less) and provide more power than MTL vape kits.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How much does vaping cost compared to smoking?
Way less. After buying your kit, expect £20–50 monthly on coils and liquid. A 20-a-day smoker spends £400+ monthly on cigarettes — most switchers save over £3,500 a year.
What's the difference between auto-draw and button-activated kits?
Auto-draw fires when you inhale. Button-activated needs you to hold the fire button. Simple as that, really — auto-draw's more beginner-friendly, buttons give more control.
What's the difference between built-in and removable batteries?
Built-in charges via USB — convenient but when the battery dies after a year or two, the whole kit's done. Removable batteries (18650s, 21700s) need a separate charger and cost extra upfront, but you can carry spares, swap them instantly when flat, and replace knackered cells without binning the device. More faff, but better long-term value if you're a heavy vaper.
Do vape kits come with e-liquid included?
Prefilled pod kits do. Refillable kits don't — you'll need to buy liquid separately.
Can I use any e-liquid in my vape kit?
No. Coils above 1.0Ω need 50/50 or nic salts. Coils below 1.0Ω need high VG (70/30+). Wrong ratio means leaks, flooding, or dry hits.
How do I prime a new coil correctly?
This one matters — get it wrong and you'll ruin the coil before you even start.
Drop 3–5 drops of e-liquid onto the cotton wicking holes on the coil's side. Install it, fill your tank, then wait. Seriously, wait — give it a full 5–10 minutes to soak through. Impatient? You'll burn the cotton instantly. Tastes like charred cardboard and the coil's toast.
How do I know what wattage setting to use?
Check your coil — there's a recommended range printed on it. Start at the lower number, work up gradually. Pod kits handle this automatically so don't overthink it.
What does adjustable airflow actually do?
Tight airflow = firmer draw, punchy flavour. Open airflow = airy draw, bigger clouds. Personal preference — just experiment.
How long should I wait between puffs?
10–20 seconds. Lets the wick re-saturate. Chain vaping without breaks causes dry hits and kills coils faster.
How long does a full battery charge typically last?
Varies massively.
A small 400mAh pod kit might last half a day with regular use. A 1500mAh device could go two or three days if you're not hammering it. Higher wattage drains faster, obviously.
Can I vape while my kit is charging?
Some devices allow it, but it's not great for battery health. Better to wait.
Should I turn my vape off when not using it?
If it has a button, yes — prevents pocket-firing. Buttonless kits auto-sleep anyway.
How do I know when my e-liquid is running low?
Just look — most tanks are see-through. Top up around the quarter-full mark. Never vape it bone dry or you'll torch the coil.
Can I mix different e-liquid flavours in my tank?
Yeah, go for it. Sometimes works brilliantly, sometimes tastes rank. Mixing nicotine strengths is fine. Avoid mixing different VG/PG ratios though.
Why does my e-liquid change colour in the tank?
Oxidation — completely normal. Nicotine darkens with heat and light exposure. Doesn't mean it's gone bad.
How long will a vape kit last before I need a new one?
One to two years typically. The battery degrades first — you'll notice it holding less charge over time. Most people upgrade before it actually dies completely.
Can I upgrade individual parts of my vape kit?
Depends. Box mods use universal 510 threading so you can swap tanks around. Pod systems are proprietary — pods only fit their specific device, no mixing and matching.
What warranty do vape kits typically come with?
Anywhere from 14 days to 6 months depending on the brand — manufacturing faults only, not coils or accidental damage. UK consumer law gives you 30 days for faulty goods regardless. Keep your receipt.
How do I store my vape kit properly?
Upright, room temperature, out of sunlight. Storing longer term? Empty the tank and pull removable batteries out.
Can I take my vape kit on a plane?
Hand luggage only — lithium batteries can't go in the hold. Empty your tank beforehand or cabin pressure will cause leaks. E-liquids follow standard 100ml rules.
