What Are 50/50 Shortfills?
50/50 shortfills are larger bottles of nicotine-free e-liquid mixed to an equal VG/PG ratio. Unlike high VG shortfills designed for sub-ohm tanks, the 50:50 blend works with the smaller coils in pod kits and MTL devices. A 50ml shortfill holds 50ml of vape juice with space for one nic shot, giving you 60ml total. An 80ml shortfill fits two shots for 100ml total, and a 100ml shortfill takes two shots for 120ml. Same format as high VG shortfills, just mixed for different devices.
How to Add Nic Shots
Adding nicotine is straightforward. Pour your nic shot into the shortfill bottle, replace the cap, and shake well for 30 seconds. The strength you end up with depends on your bottle size and nic shot strength. Check the guide below to see what you'll get from different combinations. Shake again before each refill to keep the nicotine mixed through properly.
Nic Shot Strength Guide For (50ml Shortfills)
- 1x 9mg shot = 1.5mg in 60ml
- 1x 12mg shot = 2mg in 60ml
- 1x 15mg shot = 2.5mg in 60ml
- 1x 18mg shot = 3mg in 60ml
- 1x 20mg shot = 3.3mg in 60ml
Nic Shot Strength Guide For (80ml Shortfills)
- 2x 9mg shots = 1.8mg in 100ml
- 2x 12mg shots = 2.4mg in 100ml
- 2x 15mg shots = 3mg in 100ml
- 2x 18mg shots = 3.6mg in 100ml
- 2x 20mg shots = 4mg in 100ml
Nic Shot Strength Guide For (100ml Shortfills)
- 2x 9mg shots = 1.5mg in 120ml
- 2x 12mg shots = 2mg in 120ml
- 2x 15mg shots = 2.5mg in 120ml
- 2x 18mg shots = 3mg in 120ml
- 2x 20mg shots = 3.3mg in 120ml
Nicotine Note: Nicotine is addictive. 50/50 shortfills are sold nicotine-free. Adding nic shots is optional and should be done responsibly. Not suitable for non-smokers or under-18s.
Why 50/50 Works for Pod Kits
Why does ratio matter? High VG liquids are thick and struggle to keep up with smaller coils, leading to dry hits or burnt taste. The 50:50 blend is thinner, so it soaks into the wick faster and feeds the coil properly. PG also carries flavour better than VG and adds that familiar hit at the back of your throat. If your device runs between 5-30 watts with coils from 0.6Ω to 1.2Ω, 50 50 vape juice is the ratio that works for both MTL and restricted-direct-to-lung (RDTL) vaping.
Freebase or Salt Nic Shots?
Both work, but they hit differently. Freebase nic shots deliver a sharper sensation that some vapers prefer, especially at lower strengths. Salt nic shots absorb faster and go down smoother, closer to what you'd get from a 10ml nic salt bottle. Already vaping salts in your pod kit? Salt shots will feel more familiar. Either way, stick to 50/50 ratio shots to match your shortfill blend.
Shortfills vs 10ml Bottles
The maths speaks for itself. An 80ml shortfill plus two nic shots costs roughly the same as four or five 10ml bottles but stretches twice as far. You also get flexibility since you're not locked into fixed nicotine strengths. For vapers going through several bottles a week, switching to 50 50 shortfill format means you'll notice the savings quickly.

50/50 Shortfill E-Liquids FAQs
What nicotine strength will I get from adding nic shots?
Depends on bottle size and shot strength. Check the strength guide above for exact figures. As a quick example, one 18mg shot in a 50ml shortfill gives you 3mg in 60ml total.
Can I use 50/50 shortfills without nicotine?
Yes. Shortfills come nicotine-free by default, so vape them as they are if you prefer.
Which nic shots should I use with 50/50 shortfills?
Always match the ratio. Use 50/50 nic shots rather than high VG versions, which can throw off the blend and cause issues in pod kits. Freebase or salt, whichever you prefer.
Can I use 50/50 shortfills in a sub-ohm tank?
Not really. Sub-ohm devices at higher wattages work best with 70/30 or thicker blends. The thinner 50:50 mix can flood those coils and produce a harsh vape. Stick to MTL devices or pod kits.
What's the difference between 50ml, 80ml, and 100ml shortfills?
Size and value. 50ml shortfills hold 50ml with space for one nic shot, giving 60ml total. 80ml shortfills fit two shots for 100ml total. 100ml shortfills also take two shots, giving you 120ml. Larger bottles cost less per ml.
How long does a 50/50 shortfill last?
Depends how much you vape. Most pod kit users go through 2-4ml daily, so a 50ml bottle could last a couple of weeks while 100ml might stretch beyond a month. Heavier vapers will go through it quicker, but it still beats buying 10ml bottles repeatedly.
Are 50/50 shortfills the same as nic salts?
Not quite. Nic salts come in 10ml bottles with nicotine already added at fixed strengths. 50/50 shortfills are nicotine-free and larger, letting you add your own shots. The ratio matches, which is why both work in the same devices.
Why do 50/50 shortfills work better in pod kits?
Thinner liquid. The equal VG/PG blend flows more easily through small ports in pod cartridges, so the wick stays saturated and flavour stays steady. High VG liquids are too thick and often can't keep pace with the coil.
Can I mix different shortfill flavours together?
You can. Complementary profiles like strawberry and cream tend to work, but random combinations might disappoint. Try small amounts before committing.
What flavours are available in 50/50 shortfills?
Hundreds. Fruit, dessert, menthol, candy, tobacco. Whether you're after sharp citrus, creamy puddings, icy cool, or smooth tobacco notes, our range from Drifter, Kingston, Doozy Vape and others covers all of it.
